The Guilty Feminist x Queers Of Joy
Hosted by Deborah Frances-White and Chris Lani-McAllister
Are you ready for an evening of hilarity and empowerment? The Guilty Feminist and Queers of Joy have teamed up for the very first time to bring you an unforgettable live show and podcast recording!
Get ready to welcome Deborah Frances-White all the way from London for an evening of laughter, entertainment, and meaningful discussions on feminism and gender diversity. This is your one and only chance to see her live on her Sydney trip!
We promise an electric atmosphere packed with authenticity, laughter, and thought-provoking conversations in a show uniquely designed to entertain as well as challenge the audience to adopt an intersectional approach to feminism and celebrate trans vitality. Featuring trans entertainers, including Chris Lani-McAllister, founder of Queers of Joy as co-host, independent musician Malaika Mfalme and more.
This is a night of not only celebration but solidarity with our LGBTQI+ refugee friends living in Block 13, Kakuma, Kenya.
Block 13
All profits from this event will go to Block 13 and a Ugandan LGBT organisation of their choice.
Just recently the most draconian anti-homosexuality bill was passed in Uganda. One of the laws will make it illegal for a Ugandan to financially support any LGBT rights organisation.
Block 13 are LGBTQIA+ refugees in Kakuma, Kenya - one of the world’s largest Refugee Camps. Mostly from Uganda, where it is illegal to be queer, they each travelled to Kenya seeking asylum. Since 2019 they have been discriminated against, attacked and dehumanised whilst in the camp. In response they have formed a community of 56 adults and their children in an effort to stay safe in numbers.
Since August 2021 they have been creating video performances to be played at Queers of Joy. Queers of Joy and The Guilty Feminist have been fundraising for them to somehow ease life in the camp, allowing them access to school supplies, food and medicine.
You can read more about Block 13 on their website where they blog about their experiences https://www.freeblock13.com/

Theatre isn't always accessible, but it should be. It puts up further barriers to historically excluded groups being part of the show. So, we have reserved four (4) tickets for each performance for those who face social barriers to attending theatre, especially those who identify as Indigenous and/or Black and/or People of Colour, those who identify as transgender and gender diverse, those experiencing disability or those experiencing economic hardship.
