Perspectives - RITUAL

Presented by SJB

Creatives talking about themes, sharing their perspectives

Perspectives is a speaker series that takes place once every quarter at the Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst, NSW. The series brings together three creatives from different fields and backgrounds to share their interpretation of a set theme for the event.

Founded in 2016, more than 90 speakers have taken the stage to share their perspectives. The event aims to promote speakers from diverse backgrounds, and is organised by a collective of creatives from the built environment.

Perspectives enables conversations among local creative industries, from architecture to fine art, fin-tech to public service, and flowers to food production.

For this event, Ben Berwick (Architect and Director of Prevalent), Charlotte Ree (Author and Cook) and Hannah Cheetham (Founder/Director of Built In-Kind) share their perspective of what Ritual means to them. Meet the speakers below.

    AUTHOR & COOK

Charlotte’s memoir ‘Heartbake’ was released last year and topped the bestsellers lists. In the memoir, Ree takes us along her journey of learning to cook in the wake of a divorce that left her feeling unsure of who she was and what she wanted at a time when the whole world was turned upside down.

She is passionate about cooking and the art of crafting a beautiful meal, and also hosts supper clubs for likeminded creatives in Sydney.

  • Hannah Cheetham

    FOUNDER/DIRECTOR, BUILT IN-KIND

Hannah Cheetham is the founder-director of Newcastle-based social enterprise community workshop Built In-Kind.

Hannah has had the great privilege of working in the design and construction of Trauma-Informed Spaces for Women's Refuges and Domestic Violence Centers. This work was instrumental in shaping her understanding of issues that relate to communities who experience marginalization and their agency over their shelter.

This experience, combined with her education and practice in architecture and fabrication, led to the foundation of Built in-Kind as a platform for the redistribution of skills for a more empowered and diverse society better able to maintain and provide their own shelter.

Hannah is a graduate of the University of Newcastle’s I2N Female Founders business start-up scholarship (Dec 2023), a Masters of Architecture (University of Newcastle, 2023) The Centre For Sustainability’s Leadership Scholarship (2018) and recurring volunteer and graduate of the Glenn Murcutt Masterclass (Architecture Foundation Australia 2017 – 2020).
