Darlo stands for radical empowerment and inclusion. Our artists have free reign to take up space. To create exceptional, joyful, challenging work that leaves our audiences feeling energised and connected.
Darlo has a proud history of being programmed by open submission, by ideas that artists bring to us. The Open Door Submission call-out still keeps the doors wide open and makes the process more accessible.
We invite artists to pitch us an idea - tell us what it is and why it is exciting. We are looking for live performance of every kind - cabaret, comedy, plays, performance art, music, dance, spoken work and anything else you have thought of!
ABOUT THE SUBMISSIONS
These submissions calls for your elevator pitch of an artistic idea. We accept submissions that are written, video or voice recordings. For this submission we require:
contact details
a description of your experience and artistic practice
what your idea is - the artistic form, the intention behind the work, what you would like to do, who is involved
why it is exciting, why it would suit Darlo
any references you would like to share
Submissions for round 3 will close 9am Monday 2 May 2022.
Guidelines:
Every submission will be read by our producing team, and we will schedule a meeting with you if we would like to hear more about it. We won't get in contact otherwise.
All previous Open Door applications will be considered for the 2023 season. If you have more to share about your previous application such as new ideas or additional support material, please complete a new submission.
These submissions are not open to play scripts in development. We take these submissions through our Next In Line Playwriting Program, that is programmed by open submission. Learn more about Next In Line.
