Darlo Directors’ Lab participants announced
We’re very excited to share that Sydney creatives Imbi, Daley Rangi and Steven Ljubović are the inaugural participants in Darlo Directors’ Lab. The aims of this new program iare to provide networking, upskilling and creative fulfilment for the participants, and to improve trans representation in the performing arts industry.
The Darlo Directors’ Lab participants will be immersed in Darlinghurst Theatre Company for the latter part of 2022. They will join the Overflow rehearsal room as creative observers, and have regular one-on-ones with Dino Dimitriadis (Overflow Director) and Leila Enright (DTC’s Head of New Writing and Producer), as well as have open access to DTC offices, facilitated workshops and peer participant sessions.
Thanks to the City of Sydney for their generous support of this program!
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Imbi is a multidisciplinary artist currently residing on Gadigal Land. His practice spans across mediums, from song to digital collage to performance art to poetry and beyond. Regardless of what form their art takes, imbi always creates with intention and emphasis on divine connection. Everything he does is ritual. Imbi’s recent creative achievements include having their music shared on national and international radio (TripleJ, FBi, Beats1), writing published in ‘Nothing To Hide: A Trans Anthology” (2022) and being selected for the Queer Nu Work Development program hosted by Performance Space and PACT.
Daley Rangi is a Māori antidisciplinary artist generating the unpredictable, speaking truth to power and reorienting hierarchies.
Their practice gently unearths the complexities of resilience and resistance, inspired by ancestry and fuelled by injustice.
Steven Ljubović (they/them) is a Sydney based actor and director for stage and screen whose practice focuses on storytelling through movement. They are the founder and director of Sydney's newest physical theatre company, MERAK whose inaugural production of MORTEL debuted in July 2022. Steven has recent credits as director and choreographer in Titus Andronicus (2021). Their credits as intimacy choreographer include Jipprock Production’s, Bad Smoke at Flow Studios (2022), and The Dazzle by Corvus Arts Theatre which premieres in November (2022). Steven has a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Acting) and teaches movement and acting instrument at the Academy of Film, Theatre and Television. Steven is grateful to be a participant in Darlinghurst Theatre Company’s Trans Directors’ Lab and is thrilled to be joining the team of Overflow and Let the Right One In.
