History: Darlo Drama has been established since 1990 and for the past twenty years we have been inspiring students with our positive and dynamic approach. We have an excellent reputation for creating a supportive and enjoyable environment for you to explore your creativity and build confidence.
Our classes are an affordable and ideal starting point to learn about acting. The emphasis of all our courses is practical, so the majority of class time is spent doing and experiencing.
Darlo Drama teachers are professional actors and directors, who are constantly bringing their experiences and enthusiasm to your class.
Fundamentals of Acting is a manageable course for those who want to explore the benefits of drama, but have busy lives.
The Fundamentals of Acting is made up of three Levels. Each course is ten weeks, for one night a week, building towards a performance at the end of each level.
There is no obligation to do all three Levels. If you have already completed a beginners course elsewhere, you can elect to join Level 2 or Level 3 pending availability.

LEVEL 1 - Getting on your Feet
Level 1 builds your confidence in performing, creative expression and spontaneity.
Fundamental acting skills such as improvisation, voice, movement and script work are taught through drama excercises and games. At the end of level 1, you will perform a monologue taken from a play to an audience of family, friends & fellow students.
Duration: 10 weeks, one night per week. Fee: $420 A $100 deposit is needed to confirm your enrolment.

LEVEL 2 - Setting the Scene
Level 2 concentrates on working with dialogue. You will learn techniques to approach dramatic text in more detail, and focus on working with other actors on stage.
Improvisation and drama games are used to understand these techniques. Characterisation, voice and movement are also explored in this term, building towards a presentation of scenes, to an audience of family, friends & fellow students.
Duration: 10 weeks, one night per week. Fee: $430 A $100 deposit is needed to confirm your enrolment.

LEVEL 3 - Getting on Stage
The main focus of Level 3 is the production of a play, giving you the opportunity to perform in a larger scale presentation. This term will give you a fundamental understanding and experience of the processes involved in putting on a play. Working as an ensemble and script analysis is developed throughout this process.
The final production is the graduation show where you will be presented with a certificate for having completed The Fundementals of Acting with Darlo Drama .
Duration: 10 weeks, one night per week. Fee: $460
Payment of full course fee is needed to confirm your enrolment for Level 3.

Classes are held on either a Monday, Tuesday or a Wednesday night, from 6:30pm- 9:30pm. Pick the night that suits you.
Course Start and Finish dates in 2010:
Wednesday August 25 – October 27 (FULL) Monday September 27 – December 6 (BOOKING OUT FAST!) Tuesday October 12 – December 14 Wednesday November 17 – December 15 (plus 4 weeks into 2011)

Level 1 & 2 classes are held at The Rex Centre 58A Macleay St, Kings Cross, located in Fitzroy Gardens; entrance just down from the Post Office, opposite the kids playground.
Level 3 & 4 classes are held at the Reg Murphy Activity Hall, 19 Greenknowe Ave, Potts Point
HOW TO GET THERE:
TRAIN: We are a short walk from Kings Cross Station.
BUS: 311 from either Circular Quay or Railway Square (near Central). Stops just across the road from the Fitzroy Gardens coming from Railway Square & right at Fitzroy Gardens coming from the Quay.
PARKING: At the "Kings Cross Parking Station", entrance in Ward Avenue.
Just have your parking ticket validated at the theatre. Cost $9 flat fee Sunday to Thursday.

MEMBERSHIP & other performance opportunities: Once you join a Level 1 acting class you receive a years free membership.
Darlo Drama Membership offers you the opportunity to be in a full length production performed in the theatre for a week. Once you have done the course you can audition for Darlo Drama productions and put your training into practice.
Darlo Drama Membership is egalitarian, there are no favourites or “cliques” and all participants are given equal opportunity to be involved.
All level 1 students get a year's Darlo Drama membership included in their course fees.

Level 4 - The Actor's Lab > Starts Thursday 16 Sept

This is a more advanced course and is ideal for anyone wishing to sharpen their skills, boost their confidence and make their performance more engaging.
The aim of the Actors Lab course is to refine and work on Stanislavski based techniques as well as explore newer methods. These will be applied to a scene, which will be performed at the end of the term.
By utilising these methods, participants can better define their own way of performance preparation.

All course fees (including deposits) are non-refundable.
Class transfers for Level 1 course will only be accepted with at least 48 hours notice prior to commencement of a course. Class transfers for Level 2 & 3 courses require 7 days notice prior to the course start date. Transfers are not accepted for the Level 4 course.
All participants must follow safety procedures as instructed by tutors and/or staff. Darlo Drama does not accept responsibility for any personal property left at class venues. As Darlo Drama tutors are professional working artists, we reserve the right to make last minute substitutions.
