| 1 - Australia's artists of tomorrow |
 |
We produce new Australian and new international plays and deliver a season of high quality, diverse and innovative theatre.
Our Artist Program provides a vital important service to the Australian artistic community and has helped to launch the careers of many young and emerging artists; including playwrights, directors, designers and actors.
Every year over 100 emerging artists stage some 16 different productions with the company.

Since 1990, people from all over Sydney have benefited from their involvement in our drama school – Darlo Drama.
Darlo Drama is built on core beliefs of egalitarianism and participation for all, and invites people from all walks of life to get involved in the performing arts.
Darlo Drama is very popular, with over 120 adults attending classes each week. Over 6000 people have attended Darlo Drama classes, not to become a ‘star’ but to learn, build confidence and be part of a community.

A night at a Milk Crate Theatre show promises a moving and unique live performance, based on the real life experiences of homeless and disadvantaged participants.
Milk Crate Theatre works closely with welfare agencies including Wesley Mission, Mission Australia and the Wayside Chapel.

In 2009 alone, we toured 3 productions, which were seen by more than 50,000 people in 50 cities and towns around the country, including remote locations such as Cobar, Lightening Ridge and Warren.

| A COLOURFUL HISTORY |
 |
The Darlinghurst Theatre Company was originally based at the Wayside Theatre in Kings Cross. The 1999 Sydney hailstorm destroyed its roof and the search for a new home began.
In 2000, the South Sydney Council kindly provided new lodgings at the Reginald Murphy Hall and many fittings from the sadly closed Her Majesty's Theatre were salvaged and put to use in our theatre. These included theatre seats, dressing room mirrors, theatre lighting, and bar equipment including the original bar top.
With support from The NSW Ministry of the Arts, The Grosvenor Club and many individuals, $500,000 worth of internal renovations was completed and a new Sydney Theatre opened its doors in 2001.

| 2012 AND BEYOND... |
 |
In 2012 we are moving to the newly reconstructed Burton Street Tabernacle in Darlinghurst!
The Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, has announced that the City of Sydney will provide us with a new home at the Tabernacle. Here we will form the heart of a new arts and entertainment hub. Our new home will not only feature a state-of-the-art theatre with increased seating capacity and a fully licensed bar and café, but an exhibition space as well.
