"Hello Again scores!"- New York Newsday

Carnal desire in the spotlight! Hello Again is a musical adaptation of La Ronde by the dazzlingly inventive composer and lyricist Michael John LaChiusa. The first production of La Ronde, written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1900, sparked riots resulting in obscenity charges for its frank depiction of sex.

Attempting to ease their loneliness, ten characters mistake sex for intimacy in various decade of the twentieth century. In a dizzying array of music from each era, the bruising effects of reckless passion are chronicled in a daisy chain of sexual encounters.

A Stunning cast has been assembled for this witty, moving work that redefines what musical theatre is able to achieve.

Hello Again is the fourth Gaiety Theatre production at Darlinghurst Theatre Company. Previous shows were the very successful Fit To Be Tied, Boston Marriage and Dying City. It is with the assistance of WAAPA that this sexy, racy, darkly funny and daringly honest musical is presented.

From romance to comedy to intrigue and back again, This Is How It Goes will have you on the edge of your seat, not knowing what to believe. In This is How it Goes we meet our hero and storyteller; a funny but jaded 30 something guy who has moved back to his small hometown and left behind the city rat race.

One day, he happens to run into the girl he always had a crush from high school. The dream girl. The unattainable one. The sort of girl who always went out with the high school sports star, never the nerdy funny guy like our storyteller. In fact she has married the high school sports star...but this perfect pairing is not all it seems.

MEN, LOVE AND THE MONKEYBOY By Caleb Lewis

26 March - 19 April 2008

Presented by Darlinghurst Theatre Company, Riverside Theatres and Shaman Productions

Though we might adore them on their own, when men get together... they turn into a different animal.
Men Love and Monkey Boy goes beyond the bravado to find out what motivates the male of the species.
Phillip spends his days studying primate behaviour. His specialist subject? The Gorilla, man's second closest cousin.

He need not look far for inspiration. His father, Robbo, is 55 going on 16 and will forever be ‘one of the boys', his brother-in-law Dave has lost his sex drive since his wife's promotion; and his best mate Rex seems determined to prove his virility by pursuing anything that moves. With role models like these, what's a boy to do when he meets a nice girl? Will he rise above the monkey business and woo her like a gentleman? Or does he employ gorilla tactics to land his mate? Will he emerge as a champ, chump or chimp?

From the pen of Caleb Lewis (Nailed, Rocketbaby and Dogfall) Men, Love and the Monkeyboy is a hilarious satire. It's a secret window into the way men see themselves and see each other, the way they love and the way they hurt. You'll start to wonder if we'll ever make it out of the jungle.

"This production is universally enjoyable. The performances are excellent, the script is tight and the humour is so acutely Australian that the audience feels like they are being genuinely included in the jokes" - Alex Lalak, The Daily Telegraph

"The opening scene was explosive and unpredictable and set the tone for the rest of the play- high drama one moment, high comedy the next...So simple, but so tickled the ‘Ahowclever' gland. Very good stuff" - Lee Bemrose, The Drum Media

"Lewis has a good feel for dialogue and comedy. He creates dramatic moments that have us by turns, laughing, cringing, shaking our head in disbelief and empathising with the characters...Monkeyboy is witty, insightful and entertaining." - Jo Litson, The Sunday Telegraph

"Caleb Lewis has written an interesting and clever play about the evolution of human relationships...funny, engaging writing" - Augusta Supple, Australian Stage Online

"Lewis has an ear for the manners and anxieties of contemporary Australia." - The Australian

"Caleb Lewis...marks the appearance of a significant new talent."  - Colin Rose, The Sun Herald

An hilarious comedy of Aussies in Hollywood

When Terry Swanton gains art-house kudos for his small Australian independent film, he gets summoned to Los Angeles by Jimmy Fleishberg, the Greatest

Independent Movie Producer In Hollywood. Jimmy’s got Big Ideas for Terry’s new screenplay, and La La Land is a crazy place. Nutty foreign directors, egotistical cult-ridden movie stars, drug dealers with three-picture development deals and abandoned Aussie TV actors are just part of Terry’s sometimes absurd journey into the dream factory known as LA.

An unashamedly excessive comedy of Aussies in Hollywood, from the writer and director of The Young Tycoons, Backpacker!, Barnesy, the Harbour and You and The Dog Logs.

OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD By Timberlake Wertenbaker

23 July - 23 August 2008

Presented by Darlinghurst Theatre Company and The Group Theatre

Based on an amazing and true Australian story

Adapted for stage from Thomas Keneally's book The Playmaker
"powerful and inspirational" - Anne Hopper, The Stage, UK
Winner of the Laurence Olivier Play of the Year Award
From the extraordinary novel The Playmaker by award winning author Thomas Kenneally (Schindler's Ark, The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith), Our Country's Good takes us back to Sydney 1789, and tells the true story of the first theatrical production staged by white people in Australia.

Governor Phillip faces the challenge of building a new society out of bitter, resentful officers, and hundreds of thieves, pickpockets and murderers.
In an effort to humanise the population and provide alternative entertainment to public hangings, the progressive Governor, much to the horror of the his fellow officers, decides to stage a play...starring a cast of convicts.
Our Country's Good delves into the amazing true stories from our past; it details the forbidden love between a Lieutenant and one of the convict cast members, we meet the now famed Mary Bryant who phenomenally escaped to Timor in a stolen boat, and the colony prepares for its first female hanging.

From the company that electrified audiences with Hurlyburly and Lord of the Flies, Our Country's Good is a wild, haunting and hilarious true story from Australia's neglected history.

POOL (NO WATER) By Mark Ravenhill

3 September - 20 September 2008

Presented by Darlinghurst Theatre Company & square the circle

"Whenever a friend succeeds, a little something in me dies" - Gore Vidal

Bitchy, funny and to the point, pool (no water) is an unravelling of the ties that bind: a visceral and compelling play about the fragility of friendship, the morality of art and the jealousy and resentment inspired by success.

A famous artist invites her old friends out to her luxurious home and, for one night, the group is back together. Having lived in each other's pockets at art school, they have shared exhibitions, drugs and lovers. But fame and fortune is a difficult course to negotiate.

From square the circle, the company that brought Sydney audiences Terrorism and Live Acts On Stage, comes pool (no water), a play by the acclaimed writer of

Shopping and Fucking and Some Explicit Polaroids.

THE STALLION OF DEATH By Drew Fairley

24 September - 18 October 2008

Presented by Darlinghurst Theatre Company and Drew Fairley

The Stallion of Death is a boisterous comedy that sends up some great Aussie bush legends such as The Man from Snowy River. Set in the time when everyone loved a rollicking bush legend and when nothing quickened the pulse faster than a true story...except for perhaps an untrue story...or a lie!

It's 1890 and our hero Buck is a hapless, down and out drover, and he has a past he needs to escape from. He hears that the famous magazine ‘The Bulletin'  pays big money for true bush yarns and so he decides to cash in on his bush-charm and horsey knowledge.

Buck invents a thrilling tale about a murderous horse; The Stallion of Death. Soon he is the talk of the town and becomes Australia's latest great bush poet. Amazingly he wins the heart of Gemima the local rich land owner's daughter.

‘The Stallion of Death' catapults Buck into National fame!  But if the story is made up, who the hell is killing all the townsfolk?

Drew Fairley's very clever and funny play, takes a cunning look at the lawless creation of Australian history, and the covering up of our murky past.

The whinny takes it all in this hilarious play.

A hilarious comedy about what happens when do-gooding goes bad!

"THE GOD BOTHERERS is seriously hilarious and hilariously serious." - The Sunday Times

Laura, a dizzy 24 year old from Bracknell is out to save the world. She trades her Cosmo for The Idiots Guide to the Koran and sets off on the adventure of a lifetime, volunteering as an aid worker in the far flung, third world country of Tambia.

On arrival, Laura meets Keith a jaded, weary aid worker who has visited way too many problem countries and left behind him a string of failed marriages and failed causes. Tambia's problems are rampant and Laura can't solve them all, the water is scarce, the electricity only intermittently works and AK-47s are the hottest accessory, but hey, at least the locals now have mobile phones.
